Day 28 Wild Camp to Peak Hill 47 km

sunrise through the trees
A milder morning, I lingered in the sleeping bag until 6:30 am before slowly packing up. I was feeling relaxed knowing I had a shorter ride today.

On the road at 8:00 am thinking 47 km in 3 hours was going to be cruizy. Over the hill and around the bend onto a long straight section....... and straight into the wind! Not a gale but a steady breeze that had me working harder than I wanted. Still 15 kph and I was running on time.

Scar tree
As I was going along I saw a small cage structure with a gabled roof with a tree stump inside just off the road. No signs pointing to it or explaining it so I jumped off the investigate. It was the stump of a scar tree.

Further on I past a large mine just outside Tomingley. The huge mound on one side of the road reminded me of "Chariots of the Gods" and t I thought if aliens visited the Central West this is where they would come. On the other side of the road was huge pit. It was mostly screened off from the road so it was difficult to get a good picture.

While I was off the bike an old bus converted to a camper came by. It was decorated with some flair. Not sure I would wanted the fuel bill for driving that around.

The clock was ticking and the wind was stronger through the open plain. Tried to push harder but legs didn't have any zip. It has been a fortnight since my last rest day and 300 km in 3 days have taken there toll. Eventually I rolled into Peak Hill 10 minutes late.

Hill outside Peak Hill (might be Peak Hill)

Lisa's brother Tony and his daughter Bridget were waiting me. A quick walk around the Main Street and an excellent milkshake (thanks Tony!). Coincidentally Peak Hill was the venue for the Australian National Busking Competition being held in the main strip. While we were we there a number of the acts were warming up. There was a range of talent on display!

We put the bike in the back of the ute for the ride to the farm. Nice driving Bridget! Good to hear the same sort of father daughter driving lesson conversations I have had with Bec, Steph and Charli.

Bridget's L Plate
Great to catch up with Erica, Tony, Bridget and Connor and to meet Lily. Tony and I spent the afternoon looking at bee stuff before we all went to  Archie's 16th birthday party in huge farm shed on his parents' (Bull and Theresa) farm. Enjoyed a great night.

Not the Wiggles! - me, Tony, Bridget, Lily and Dave Green (one of Erica's cousins)

In the photo with me are Tony, Bridget, Lily and Dave (one of Erica's cousins). Dave had earlier provided entertainment when he ate 2 chips from a packet of the "Worlds Hottest Chilli Chips". Everyone else stopped at 1. Dave had already grabbed a second before he felt the effect of the first. I had one and it was the hottest chilli chip I have ever had and it was still hot the next day...
