Why I am "Not Flying Home"

Having recently taken a voluntary redundancy and not being ready to retire at the age of 58 but not wishing to return to full time work I have enrolled in a TAFE course that commences in February next year. This has left me with 7 months to occupy in the interim.

My wife Lisa and I are going to holiday in Northern Queensland in August. She will be returning home by aeroplane. The flight from Cairns to Melbourne takes approximately 4 hours. I will riding home on my touring bicycle. I expect to take 5 weeks to cover the same distance hence the blog title "Not Flying Home".

The route will evolve once my journey commences but the plan is to go inland into the wide open space of Queensland and New South Wales. I have been around the coast previously so this is an opportunity to see a different aspect of Australia.
